MY APPROACH
Who would you trust with your personal thoughts, feelings and emotional difficulties? Hopefully, it would be someone with many years of experience, a nonjudgmental attitude and a great deal of intelligence and tact.
It would be someone who understands just how hard it was for you to make that phone call to schedule that first appointment. It would be a professional who is able and willing to make the same level of commitment to you and your emotional needs as you, the patient, make to the process. It would also be someone who not only understands you, but understands himself as well.
Dr. Jerry Surasky has been practicing psychotherapy for over 28 years, has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a certificate in Psychoanalysis. He believes each person is unique and that is why when asked what he specializes in, he is fond of saying, "I specialize in human beings." His style is direct, open and honest. Dr. Jerry Surasky offers a therapeutic relationship, a safe environment and a flexible approach to facilitate personal growth, symptom reduction and personal change.
REASONS FOR THERAPY
Do you find yourself depressed, anxious or are you having relationship difficulties? Are you feeling "stuck" in your personal or professional life? Do you get the same feedback from your boss, your friends and your significant other, perhaps? If any of these are the case, psychotherapy is probably the treatment of choice for you.
Psychotherapy is a "talking cure" that is based on the principle of confidentiality. It is a process that takes place over time, requires a commitment, and occurs in the context of a therapeutic relationship between a patient and a therapist. Far from the stigma that many people feel about asking for professional help, Dr Jerry Surasky believes it actually takes a great deal of courage to be a patient. It is easier not to. The benefits of therapy may seem subtle but are usually quite substantial and life changing. Patients who get the most out of psychotherapy are those who are the most motivated—people who really want to feel better, who really want to be different.
